Wickenburg is only one of 258 cities and towns recognized for putting the needs of kids and families first as part of Playful City USA program.
National non-profit KaBOOM! is honoring the Town of Wickenburg with a 2017 Playful City USA designation for the first time. Playful City USA honors cities and towns across the country for putting the needs of families first so kids can learn, grow and develop important life skills. These communities are transforming ordinary places into playful spaces and using play as a solution to the challenges facing their residents.
The 2017 Playful City USA recognition includes 258 communities from Richmond, Virginia to Richmond, California that make it as easy as possible for kids to play. In total, these communities feature more than 14,000 safe and engaging playspaces that serve more than 4 million kids.
The Town of Wickenburg is one of the smallest municipalities to ever be recognized as a Playful City USA. The Town of Wickenburg and the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department were selected due to several creative innovations in programming, partnerships and innovations. In particular, the Wickenburg Literary Festival, Coffinger and Sunset Park Extreme Makeovers, Sunset Park Splashpad and community partnerships for programming with the Del Webb Center for the Performing Arts and Wickenburg Unified School District. The Town was also recognized for the renovations of the Wickenburg Public Library and Learning Center and the creative approach of recreation and library staff programming together to expand options to the community.
“The Town is honored to receive the Playful City USA designation. I would like to thank the Wickenburg Town Council for their continued support and leadership in prioritizing Wickenburg as a destination for all age groups, as well as the Parks, Recreation and Library staff for their dedication and hard work,” said Parks, Recreation and Facilities Director Robert Carmona.
