Construction to Start on Splash Pad, Phase 2 Fundraising Continues

The Town of Wickenburg is pleased to announce that it has raised enough funds to begin construction of the new splash pad at Sunset Park. Town officials anticipate the splash pad will be operational by Memorial Day.

The new splash pad has been one of the most requested amenities of the Town’s Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department. The splash pad will consist of a variety of water features in a western-themed layout, including a bucket spill, a water cannon shootout, and a rock formation waterfall.

As of February 6, 2017 total fundraising for phase 1 has come to $182,318.42. Funding sources include:

  • $105,472.58 Parks and Recreation Development Fees
  • $50,000 Wellik Foundation Grant
  • $5,472.58 Donations
  • $10,000 Pledged Donations
  • $15,000 John K. and Lynne D Boyer Foundation Grant

“We are grateful for the support the community and the Town Council have shown in completing Phase 1 of this popular project,” stated project manager Robert Carmona. “Now that Phase 1 is complete, it is imperative that we continue our fundraising efforts for the other amenities that will make this splash pad a fun destination for residents of all ages.”

Fundraising will continue for Phase 2 of the project, which will further enhance the splash pad with benches, fencing, and a shade structure. The Town will need to raise another $50,000 to start construction on this phase.

Play It Safe Playgrounds and Water Odyssey are the project vendors. Parks, Recreation and Facilities crews will complete initial site preparation work prior to construction.
