View the weekly construction photos and additional information on the project website.
Work continues Monday through Saturday:
REMINDER: Grand Avenue closed in both directions between Dysart and Litchfield roads from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, to remove scaffolding from the Bell Road bridge. Traffic will be detoured at Dysart and Litchfield roads.
REMINDER: Grand Avenue will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between Dysart and Litchfield roads from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, to install a new storm drain pipe.
During this project, ADOT will also:
Build Grand Avenue retaining walls connecting to the Bell Road bridge.
Install sidewalk and hand railing on new bridge.
Reconstruct eastbound Grand Avenue.
Complete the retaining wall panels on the bridge over Grand Avenue.
City, county, and state law enforcement will be patrolling the area. Please obey all traffic signage and posted speed limits.
The Grand Avenue/Bell Road Interchange Project is using the design-build contracting method, which provides flexibility while the contractor’s designers work side-by-side with the construction team to deliver an improved connection between the two roadways. The project is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2017.
To reduce length of the project and overall impacts of construction, ADOT has worked with the city of Surprise and local businesses to schedule a full closure of Bell Road near Grand Avenue. This will allow for reconstruction of Bell Road as an overpass at Grand Avenue and the parallel railroad tracks, providing a significant improvement for future traffic flow.
*Nov. 22 is the target date for the reopening of Bell Road. As with any construction project weather and other unforeseen factors can impact completion dates.
